JaQuel Knight is a creative director and choreographer who is one of the masterminds behind Beyoncé and Megan thee Stallion’s creative endeavors, and recently made history as the first commercial choreographer to succeed in obtaining a copyright registration for his work when
he did so with “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It).” This groundbreaking achievement landed him
the cover of Billboard Magazine as, in the long history of dance, nobody had conceptualized
the notion that a movement could be copyrighted.
In a monumental move to create the same opportunity for the next generation of creatives, JaQuel is launching Knight Choreography & Music Publishing, Inc. KCM Publishing will service
the same way a traditional music publishing company would, brokering licensing deals and protecting IP, but for some of the most iconic dances in history. KCM Publishing will serve as
the umbrella overseeing the rights to JaQuel’s choreography works, like Beyoncé's iconic
“Single Ladies” video and the chart-topping “WAP,” along with a diverse range of creatives
and choreographers across all genres and mediums. KCM Publishing will act as their strategic partners in copyright, licensing and beyond as they change the landscape of protections for choreographers, creatives, and artists in the commercial music industry. JaQuel will work in partnership with lawyer David Hecht, who helped JaQuel secure the copyright for "Single
Ladies," and his manager, producer Mary Pelloni.
